Services

Dr Soosay takes a holistic approach to health. He looks for root causes for your illness. Using the analogy of a tree with diseased leaves or branches, often the problems are in the soil and the roots. Likewise, in humans the problem is often the diet and/or the gut. In the gut the digestive process may not be optimum, the microbiome may be unbalanced or the gut lining may be diseased.

From a holistic perspective, the treatment of all diseases must start with healing the gut. Most people who present to the clinic have gut issues. They may have other problems as well, which may seem unrelated to the gut. At the first consultation, Dr Soosay will discuss the best course of action for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in an initial consultation?

The initial consultation is 45 minutes. You will have filled out a comprehensive questionnaire. This will be discussed in depth to tease out other related issues to help in the treatment plan. We are starting a partnership where you have to do the work under the guidance of Dr Soosay.

A hastily filled out questionnaire will make it difficult to get all the information within the 45 minutes and you may need to return for a further consultation. Part of the initial consultation will involve a physical examination. Then a treatment plan will be formulated including tests to be done.

Why do you need my medical and family history?

Your past medical history is extremely important. The illness you present with today is determined by what has happened to you in the past. Where were you born? What was the pregnancy like? Were you a normal delivery or a C-section? Were you breast fed? What environment did you grow up in (pollution, chemical sprays etc)? Were you ill in childhood? Antibiotics?

The family history is also important. Is there a family history of heart disease, cancer, auto-immune disease? The focus can then be directed to prevent these conditions in addition to healing your current issues.

How long will it take to heal my gut?

That depends.

How serious is your gut condition? How long have you had it? In a young person with a gut condition (say IBS) that she has had for a few months, may clear within about 3 months. Most people who present have had long standing issues with their gut and this can take 6 to 12 months or longer. You will be given a good indication at the end of the first consultation.

Is treatment going to be expensive?

Yes it can be. Testing can be expensive and is not covered by Medicare or health funds. These tests are not considered conventional. The most commonly ordered test is a stool test looking at the microbiome. This costs just under $400. If you have not had common blood tests prior to your first visit, these can be ordered by Dr Soosay. These tests will be bulk billed. There may be some blood tests that cannot be bulk billed but this will be clarified at the time of the consultation.

There may be medications that have to be compounded. These will not be subsidised by the PBS, so pensioners or Health Care card holders will not be able to get a discount from the pharmacy.

Treatment will generally involve supplements that are directed at the cause of your problems. To heal you may need nutritional and/or herbal supplements that have to be purchased.
